The Javorníky Mountains are a boundary range on the Moravian - Slovak border, demarcated by the Lyský and Makovský passes. The mountains have a uniform geological structure of Carpathian flysch sandstone broken into individual fault blocks. The whole range is located within CHKO Beskydy (protected landscape area). The sparsely populated valleys and slopes are a typical characteristic of these mountains. The mountain ridges are continuously forested. The highest part of this range is located in the Slovak Republic, where the main Javorníky ridge culminates with the peak Velký Javorník (1,071 meters above the sea level). The only thousander located in the Czech portion of the range is Malý Javorník, with an elevation of 1,021 meters above sea level. The whole ridge of the Javorníky provides one of the most beautiful hikes in the mountains of the Czech Republic in any season.
